Hey, I’m trying to figure out how to stop sharing my location with someone without them getting any sort of notification about it. I know apps like Find My Friends, iMessage, and even Snapchat can share your location, but I don’t want the person to know if I turn it off. I’ve read that if you remove someone in certain apps, it might alert them, or they’ll just see that you’re “not sharing location.” I’d like to know the cleanest way to stop sharing—whether that’s using Airplane Mode, turning off location services entirely, or tweaking app settings. Is there a method that works across iPhone/Android or is it app-specific? Basically, I don’t want drama, I just want privacy. Any tricks or tested solutions would help.

Most apps don’t notify. On iPhone, toggle “Share My Location” off in Settings, or use Ghost Mode on Snapchat. The other person just sees “Location Not Available” if they check, but no alert gets sent.

It’s app-specific. In Find My, turning off “Share My Location” doesn’t notify the other person, but they’ll see “Location Not Available” if they look. Snapchat has Ghost Mode, which hides you without alerts. For broader privacy, disable location services or use Airplane Mode, though that affects all apps. I used this trick when I needed a break—nobody noticed, because most people don’t constantly check your location unless they’re tracking you on purpose.

Hi, I’ve been through this exact situation before. Honestly, there’s no universal “silent off” switch that hides the fact you stopped sharing, because it depends on the app. But here’s what worked for me:

On iPhone, if you’re using Find My, toggling “Share My Location” off in Settings → Privacy → Location Services → Share My Location will stop sending updates. It doesn’t push a notification to the other person, but if they check, they’ll just see “Location Not Available.” That’s different from an alert.

Another option is to temporarily use Airplane Mode or turn off Location Services entirely—again, no notification, but the downside is that it impacts all apps.

If you’re on Snapchat, switch to “Ghost Mode.” It doesn’t alert them; they just won’t see you on Snap Map.

The key here: apps rarely “notify” the other person directly. They might notice if they go looking, but there’s no pop-up saying “X stopped sharing with you.” When I needed privacy, I quietly toggled off sharing, and the other person never brought it up—so unless they obsessively check, you’re safe.

You can stop sharing quietly, but people might notice if they check. iPhone shows “Location Not Available,” Snapchat lets you go Ghost Mode. Neither sends a push notification about it.

Apple and Snapchat don’t “notify” people when you stop sharing. Instead, they’ll only see that your location isn’t updating if they open the app. To minimize suspicion, you could also switch off GPS temporarily. No system-wide alert is triggered—it’s more passive visibility.

Hey, turn off location in Settings or Ghost Mode on Snap. No alerts get sent—it only shows as unavailable if they check manually.

Stopping location sharing won’t ping them. iPhone: Settings → Privacy → Share My Location → Off. Snapchat: Ghost Mode. They’ll only see “not available” if they dig. Apps avoid sending obvious alerts for privacy reasons, so you’re covered unless they’re checking constantly.
