Hi everyone, I’ve been cleaning up my Instagram account and realized I don’t really know which people I follow aren’t following me back. I know Instagram shows your followers and following lists, but it feels pretty tedious to scroll through manually and compare them one by one. I’ve also heard about some third-party apps that claim to track who unfollowed you or who doesn’t follow back, but I’m not sure if those are safe or even accurate. I don’t want to risk my account security just for curiosity. Is there a built-in way on Instagram to check this, or is the only option doing it manually or through apps? I’d love to know how others handle this, especially if you’ve done a cleanup before.

Instagram never made it easy on purpose—they want to avoid “follow-unfollow drama.” You can check via your Following list, but it’s manual work. Third-party trackers may help, but I wouldn’t recommend them since they often ask for your login and risk security. Hi, the safest way is to check directly in your Following list. If it doesn’t say “Follows You,” that person isn’t following back. If you’re curious, the “Follows You” tag on profiles is the fastest indicator. It’s tedious if you follow hundreds, but reliable. Third-party apps advertise convenience, but many violate Instagram’s policies. If you want accuracy and safety, stick with Instagram’s native info—even if it’s slower. Manual check is the only safe option. Open Following → tap profiles → see if it says “Follows You.” Third-party apps promise shortcuts, but they’re risky and can compromise your account. There’s no built-in shortcut. To check, head to your Following list. If someone doesn’t show “Follows You” under their name, they aren’t following you back. It’s tedious but reliable. Third-party apps can automate this, but they’re risky—Instagram might suspend accounts that share credentials. Personally, I avoid them and instead focus on engagement: people who like/comment are more valuable than silent follows. But yes, if you want precision, manual checking is the only 100% safe way. Instagram doesn’t provide a direct feature. You either check manually by comparing your following and followers lists or risk third-party apps. Honestly, apps aren’t worth it—better to go slow and safe if account security matters to you. Hey, I’ve been through this exact situation while trying to declutter my Instagram. Unfortunately, Instagram doesn’t give us a neat “not following back” list like Twitter does. The built-in tools are limited—you can only see your “Following” and “Followers” lists separately. If you want to do it within the app, the only way is to open your “Following” list and check each profile. If the button says Follow Back, it means they follow you; if it just says Following, they don’t. It’s a little time-consuming, but it’s safe. Now, about apps—yes, there are plenty of “unfollower trackers.” Some work okay, but most are sketchy and require you to give them your login info, which is a huge security risk. Instagram itself discourages using them, and accounts have been locked for it. So the safe approach? Do it manually or just focus on people who engage with you. Quality > numbers.
