Hey, I’ve always been a little confused about how Snapchat scores work. I know the score goes up when you send or receive snaps, but I’ve heard different things about whether regular chats count too. Some friends swear their score increases after chatting, while others say it doesn’t budge unless you actually send a snap. I don’t want to test it forever by staring at the numbers, so I figured I’d ask. Does chatting affect your Snap score at all, or is it only tied to snaps, stories, and streaks? I’d love a clear explanation so I can finally stop guessing every time I see my score move.

Chats don’t give you any score boost. Snap score = snaps sent, snaps received, and sometimes stories. If you want the number to climb, keep snapping. Texts are invisible to the scoring system—they’re just there for conversation, not the score game.

Hey, chats don’t affect your Snap score. Only snaps and story posts move the number. I tested it myself—texts alone never changed my score.

Your score is tied to snaps, not chats. Every snap sent or received adds points, and stories sometimes do too. Chats don’t count. If your score went up after texting, it’s because a snap was exchanged somewhere in the mix.

Nope, chatting doesn’t change your score. Only snaps and stories do. It’s why people send blank snaps for streaks—it keeps the score rising, while chats alone won’t move it at all.

Snapchat’s algorithm for score is pretty simple: snaps in and out = score goes up. Stories also count. Text messages don’t. I tested it by sending 50 chats—zero change. Then I sent one picture snap and immediately saw my score increase. So while chatting is fun, it doesn’t boost your number. If you’re trying to increase it, focus on sending actual snaps, even silly ones. That’s why streaks are popular—they keep your snap activity high and push the score consistently.

Hi, this one trips up a lot of people because Snapchat never publishes the exact formula, but most of us long-time users have figured it out. Chats don’t count toward your Snap score. The score only increases when you send or receive snaps (photos or videos), post to your story, or occasionally when you maintain streaks. If you’re only typing text back and forth, your score isn’t moving.

I tested this with a friend once. We messaged back and forth for an hour with only text, then refreshed our scores—nothing changed. But as soon as I sent one snap (even a blank one), the score jumped immediately.

The confusion comes because if you’re mixing chats and snaps, it’s easy to think the chat is making the number climb. But no—only snaps and stories do. Chats are great for conversation, but they won’t help you chase a higher score.

Chats don’t raise your Snap score. Only sending/receiving snaps and posting stories affect it. If you’re typing messages all day, your score won’t move until you send an actual photo or video snap.
