Hey folks, I’ve been trying to figure out how to use my Bluetooth headphones with my PS5. The console has Bluetooth built in, but I read that it doesn’t directly support most third-party Bluetooth audio devices. That’s confusing because I don’t want to be stuck using only wired headsets or buying another expensive accessory. I’ve seen people mention USB dongles, third-party adapters, and even using the controller’s headphone jack with an aux cable, but I’m not sure which method actually works well without lag or poor audio. Can anyone share their experience? Like, what’s the simplest way to connect regular Bluetooth headphones to a PS5, and is there a catch (like audio delay, mic issues, or extra hardware needed)? Looking for some straight answers here.

Direct Bluetooth connection? Nope, Sony blocks it. But adapters solve that problem. Either use a USB dongle or a controller plug-in adapter. Both work fine for audio, but microphone use is hit-or-miss depending on the device.

Hey! Quick note: PS5 doesn’t support direct Bluetooth headphones. Best bet—get a USB adapter or use the DualSense headphone jack with a cable.

I recommend grabbing a PlayStation-compatible Bluetooth dongle. They’re small, cheap, and easy to set up. Just plug into a USB port, pair, and done. Don’t expect mic support on most models though—it’s usually just for listening.

Sony blocks most Bluetooth audio for latency reasons. The fix is either a USB Bluetooth adapter or plugging headphones into the controller’s 3.5mm jack with a cable.

Hi there! You’re right—the PS5 has Bluetooth, but Sony blocks most Bluetooth headphones because of latency issues. If you try connecting directly, the console often refuses or won’t let you use the mic. The simplest workaround is a Bluetooth adapter. You can plug a USB dongle into one of the PS5’s ports (front or back), pair your headphones, and you’re good to go. There are adapters made specifically for PlayStation that reduce audio delay and sometimes support mic input. Another option is using the 3.5mm headphone jack on the DualSense controller. Just grab an aux cable (or Bluetooth transmitter that connects via 3.5mm) and link it up. I personally use a small adapter that plugs into my controller, and the sound is solid. Mic doesn’t always work great on cheaper adapters, though. So yes, you can do it, but direct pairing isn’t supported—an adapter is the way to go.

I tried a couple of methods. Direct pairing didn’t work—the console just rejects it. Ended up buying a cheap Bluetooth transmitter that plugs into the PS5’s USB port. It works fine for audio, but the microphone function doesn’t pass through. For gaming with friends, I still use a wired headset. If you’re only looking for audio, though, the adapter route is smooth enough. The lag is minimal, but if you’re picky, a wired headset is still better.
