Hey guys, I’m trying to figure out something about Apple’s Find My app. You know how you can share your live location with friends or family? Well, sometimes I just don’t want to broadcast where I am, but I don’t necessarily want to remove someone from my share list either. I’ve heard there are options like pausing location, turning it off temporarily, or maybe even using tricks like Airplane Mode to stop updates. But I don’t want to mess anything up or give the impression that I blocked someone completely. Basically, I just want a quick, discreet way to hit “pause” on location sharing, and then turn it back on when I’m ready. Does anyone here know the best method to do this on iPhone without confusion?

Hey! Quick fix: toggle off “Share My Location” in Settings, or just use Airplane Mode. Both pause location instantly without needing to remove friends. Apple doesn’t have a literal “pause” button, but disabling Share My Location is basically the same. Your friends just see “Location not available.” If you own another device, switch sharing to that — works perfectly if you don’t want to explain pauses. Best way: open Find My > Me tab, toggle Share My Location off. That pauses location sharing for everyone. To avoid suspicion, some people share from another Apple device left at home, so your location stays static but phone is with you. Hi there! You’ve got a couple of solid options to pause your location on Find My. The most straightforward way is through Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > Share My Location, and just toggle it off. That pauses location sharing with everyone until you turn it back on. If you want it more targeted, open the Find My app, tap the person’s name, and select Stop Sharing Location. That can feel a bit final though, since it notifies them. If you just want a quick break without questions, you can use Airplane Mode or turn off your iPhone completely — the location will freeze at your last known spot. Another workaround: if you have multiple Apple devices signed in, you can share from another device (like an iPad at home) instead, making it look like you’re still “there.” Just remember, people you share with may notice pauses depending on which option you choose. Go to Settings > Location Services > Share My Location and switch it off. That stops updates instantly. Or, in Find My, toggle sharing for specific contacts. Airplane Mode also works but makes all connections drop, so careful. When I wanted a break, I put my phone in Airplane Mode. That froze my location at the last point until I turned it back on. Later, I realized I could simply toggle off “Share My Location” under settings, which is cleaner. My friends didn’t get an alert saying I blocked them — they just saw “Location Not Available.” It’s not foolproof though, since if you disappear often, people might ask. But technically, yes, it pauses location without permanent changes. Use Find My > Me tab > Share My Location and switch it off. It pauses sharing globally. Or assign location sharing to another Apple device logged into your account.
