Hey folks, I posted something on Instagram the other day and totally forgot to add one of the photos I meant to include. Now I’m wondering—can you actually add a photo to a post after it’s already been published, or do you have to delete and repost the whole thing? I tried looking through the edit options, but all I see is the ability to change the caption, tag people, or adjust the location. Some people say Instagram might be testing features for editing posts with multiple photos, but I’m not sure if that’s live or just a rumor. Before I go deleting my post and losing all the likes and comments, does anyone know the real deal about adding more photos after posting?

Hi there! Unfortunately, you can’t add a new photo to an Instagram post once it’s already live. Instagram lets you edit captions, tags, alt text, and even location, but it doesn’t let you insert additional photos into the carousel after publishing. If you missed one, the only real option is to delete the post and re-upload it with all the photos included. I know that’s frustrating, especially if you’ve already gotten likes and comments, but that’s how Instagram is set up right now. What you can do, though, is post the forgotten photo as a new post and maybe write in the caption something like, “Forgot to add this to my last post, so here it is!” Another alternative is posting it as a story and tagging your original post. Not the perfect solution, but it helps keep your engagement while still sharing the missed photo.

Nope, Instagram doesn’t allow you to add photos to a published post. You’d have to delete and repost with the extra picture. Editing only works for captions, tags, and locations, not for adding content after the fact.

Instagram doesn’t support adding photos to an existing post. Once you hit “share,” the content is locked in. The only workaround is either reposting with the new set or sharing the missing photo separately as a post or story. Some users mention testing features for editing carousels (like removing or reordering images), but adding new ones isn’t currently available. So if that photo’s important, reposting is the safest move—even though it can feel like starting over.

You can’t add new photos after posting. Instagram editing is limited to text, tags, and location changes. If you missed a shot, reposting or sharing it separately is the only option.

Sadly, you can’t add extra photos after you’ve posted on Instagram. The best option is to delete and repost with the full set or share the forgotten image as a new post or story. It’s not ideal, but Instagram doesn’t allow edits for media yet.

Hey! Instagram doesn’t let you add photos afterward. Only captions and tags are editable. You’ll need to repost or upload the missed photo separately.

Instagram is strict about post edits—you can’t add new photos after publishing. The edit menu only lets you change captions, tags, or location. To fix it, either repost the full set or upload the missing photo in a separate post or story.
