Hey everyone, I just upgraded to the iPhone 15 and honestly, I’m feeling kind of silly because I can’t figure out how to turn it off. On my older iPhone, I used to just hold the side button until the “slide to power off” option came up. But with the iPhone 15, when I hold the side button, it just activates Siri instead. I know there has to be a new combo for powering it down, but I don’t want to mess around and accidentally reset something or get stuck. Do you press multiple buttons at once, or is there a setting I’m missing? I’d really appreciate it if someone could break it down step-by-step for me. Thanks in advance!

Hi! Don’t worry, you’re not alone—I had the same confusion when I first got my iPhone 15. Apple changed the way shutdown works starting with Face ID models. To power off, you need to press and hold the side button and either of the volume buttons at the same time. Hold them down until the power slider shows up on the screen. Then just swipe the “slide to power off” slider to the right, and your iPhone will shut down. If you only hold the side button, you’ll just trigger Siri, which is exactly what you noticed. Another option is to go through the settings: open Settings > General > Shut Down and the same slider will appear. That’s helpful if your buttons feel stiff or you want to avoid the combo. Either method is totally safe. Once off, press and hold the side button again until the Apple logo appears to turn it back on. Press and hold the side button plus either volume button until the slider appears. Swipe to shut down. Or go to Settings > General > Shut Down if you don’t want to use hardware buttons. The shutdown process changed when Apple ditched the Home button. Now, on iPhone 15, you need to press the side button together with either the volume up or volume down button. Holding both for a few seconds brings up the “slide to power off” screen. If that’s inconvenient, head into Settings > General and scroll down to “Shut Down.” That way works just as well. It’s not broken—just Apple making things a little more complicated. Press side + volume button until the slider pops up, then slide to power off. Or in Settings > General > Shut Down. Side button alone won’t work—it’s reserved for Siri now. On iPhone 15, turning off requires pressing the side button with volume up or down. The combo avoids accidental shutdowns. If you prefer software, Settings > General > Shut Down will do the same. Pretty easy once you try it. Hey! Just hold the side button and any volume button together. The power slider will appear—swipe it and you’re done. Simple once you know it. It’s a two-button combo now: side + volume. Hold, wait for the slider, then swipe. Using only the side button = Siri. Settings menu has a shutdown option too if you don’t want hardware buttons.
