Hi everyone, I’ve been wondering about how Snap Score really works. I know it goes up when you send snaps, but I’ve heard different things about whether receiving snaps also counts. Some people swear their score increased after someone sent them a snap, while others say only sending boosts it. And then there’s confusion about chats—they don’t seem to matter, but it’s hard to tell. I’d like to know if simply receiving snaps (without replying) raises your score, or if it only happens when you actively send snaps. Snapchat doesn’t officially publish the formula, so I’m hoping someone here has tested it out or tracked their score changes to be sure. Does receiving snaps really add to your score?

Snapchat includes received snaps in the score calculation. If you notice your number rising without sending, that’s why. Just don’t confuse it with chats—they’re ignored completely. It’s a participation counter: send, receive, post stories = points.

Hi, yes—receiving snaps raises your score. Opening them doesn’t, and chats don’t count. Only sending, receiving, and posting stories make it move.

Receiving snaps counts just like sending them—it’s part of how the score grows. I tested it with two friends: one sent me 10 snaps, and my score went up by 10. So yes, it’s not one-sided, both directions matter.

Snap Score rises from both sending and receiving snaps. Chats, streak icons, and opening snaps don’t count. Posting to stories sometimes adds points, but receiving snaps is a definite contributor.

I actually tracked my score with a friend to see. We sent snaps back and forth: when I sent one, my score went up; when I received one, it also increased. Chats never made a difference. The only confusing bit is that sometimes Snapchat updates scores with a small delay, so it looks like a “random jump.” But overall, yes—receiving snaps definitely contributes. If you’re looking to grow your score quickly, trading snaps is the fastest way.

Hey, I’ve tested this a bunch because my friends and I used to compete on who could rack up the highest Snap Score. From experience, yes—receiving snaps does increase your score. Every snap you get adds one point, just like sending one does. The key thing is that opening a snap doesn’t give you anything; it’s the act of receiving it that counts. For example, if five people send you a snap each, your score will jump by five, even if you don’t reply. Chats, however, do absolutely nothing—typing “hey” all day won’t change your score. Story views also don’t affect it, but posting a story can sometimes add a little boost. The mystery jumps people see are usually just Snapchat recalculating the totals. So in short: sending snaps, receiving snaps, and posting stories are what move the number. Everything else is just noise.

Yes, receiving snaps adds to your Snap Score. Opening doesn’t matter, just the fact you got it. Chats and streak emojis don’t count. Score rises from snaps sent, snaps received, and sometimes posting stories.
